Tokyo is the world capital of rail transit. With the highest passenger density on Earth, trains arriving every 120 seconds, and seamless transfers between JR, Tokyo Metro, and Toei lines, Tokyo is the ultimate theater for high-precision hide-and-seek.

Recommended Tokyo Playable Borders

  • The Yamanote Loop Boundary (The Classic 3-4 Hour Arena): The area enclosed by the JR Yamanote Line (JY). Includes Shinjuku, Shibuya, Harajuku, Meguro, Shinagawa, Tokyo, Akihabara, Ueno, and Ikebukuro. Hiding countdown: 45 minutes.
  • Central Tokyo Subway Grid (Chiyoda & Ginza, 90-120 Minutes): Walking and central metro lines around the Imperial Palace, Ginza, Roppongi, and Akasaka.
  • Greater Tokyo Metro Area (Full-Day Game): Expanding out on the Chuo Line to Nakano/Kichijoji, or southward down to Yokohama. Hiding countdown: 60-75 minutes.

Key Tactical Transit Stations

  • Shinjuku: The busiest train station on Earth with over 200 exits and 12 distinct rail lines.
  • Tokyo Station: The historic red-brick hub connecting the Yamanote Line with the Marunouchi subway and regional rail.
  • Shibuya: Dynamic multi-level transit terminal connecting JR, Tokyu lines, Keio Inokashira, and subway lines.
  • Otemachi: Tokyo's primary subway junction connecting 5 Tokyo Metro lines underground.

Tokyo Strategic Tactics

1. The Yamanote Ring vs. The Chuo Rapid Cut

The Yamanote Line circles the perimeter, taking approximately 60 minutes to complete a full loop. However, the JR Chuo Rapid Line cuts directly east-west through the center from Shinjuku to Tokyo Station in just 14 minutes! Seekers can use the Chuo Rapid to cut the ring in half and deploy aThermometer question to determine which hemisphere the hiders occupy.

2. The Matching Station Clue

Because Tokyo station exits are dense and prominent, asking a Matching question (e.g. nearest train station or park) provides extreme precision. If seekers and hiders are both near Shinjuku Gyoen or Yoyogi Park, the clue immediately flags that both teams are in the same neighborhood.

Safety and Etiquette in Tokyo

  • Use a Suica, Pasmo, or mobile IC card for seamless tapping at ticket gates.
  • Keep your phone on silent mode (Manner Mode) and avoid talking on the phone inside train cars.
  • Do not run through crowded station concourses or scramble crossings.
  • Hiders must stay outdoors in publicly accessible areas within 400 meters of their exit.
