ABOUT NEAR

Jet Lag Hide-and-Seek Companion

Last updated September 10, 2026

Near is an independent fan-made companion, not an official Jet Lag app. It helps friends run their own real-world hide-and-seek game with a private room, a shared map, questions, and agreed location sharing.

What Near is for

If you enjoy the travel and strategy of Jet Lag: The Game, Near provides a set of tools for making a smaller game with your own group. Create a room, choose teams, set a playable border, and use questions and map information to narrow the search. The group chooses its own locations, time limits, and rules.

The project is separate from Jet Lag: The Game, Wendover Productions, and Nebula. Near does not provide episodes, show content, official rules, or access to any of those services.

Features for your own game

  • Private account-based rooms for the people who received the room code.
  • Hiding and seeking teams with consent-based live locations.
  • Questions, Radar, Thermometer, Matching, distance tools, and playable borders.
  • Walking and public-transit directions for the seeking team.
  • Room chat and supporting tools for decisions during a round.

How can I play Jet Lag-inspired hide and seek with friends?

  1. Agree on a public play area, transport options, round length, and your own rules.
  2. Open Near, sign in, create a private room, and share its code with your group.
  3. Choose hiding and seeking teams, set the map border, and give the hiders time to hide.
  4. Use questions and map deductions to narrow the search, then swap roles for another round.

Everyone needs an internet connection, and location-based questions need location access. Start with the step-by-step hide-and-seek guide to plan your first game, or open Near and create a room.

Which hide-and-seek questions can I use?

Near includes Matching, Measuring, Radar, Thermometer, Photo, and Tentacles questions. Compare nearby places, test a distance, find out whether you are getting warmer, or ask for a photo clue. Location-based answers are calculated privately; hiders review and send them. Seekers are not shown the hiders’ live coordinates.

Is Near the official Jet Lag: The Game app?

No. Near is an independent fan-made app for organizing your own games. It does not replace official game materials or claim that its rules match every season. Agree on your group’s rules before starting.

Can I use Near on my phone?

You can play Near in your phone’s browser. For iPhone release news, check Near’s launch page.

What Near does not do

Near is not a public location directory, emergency tracker, or supervision service. GPS is approximate. Players should share only what they have agreed to share, stay together when the rules require it, follow local laws, and stop when conditions are unsafe.

What about Jet Lag-style tag?

Near does not have a tag mode yet. Read the Jet Lag-style tag game page for a clear explanation of the Runner-and-Chasers format and what may come to Near later.

Start with the rules

Read the real-world hide-and-seek guide for a round structure and safety checklist, then visit the Near overview for the full feature explanation.
