Jet Lag-Style Tag Game for Friends (Coming Soon)

Last updated September 10, 2026

Tag mode is not available in Near yet. This page explains the Jet Lag-style tag format that inspired the idea and what a future Near tag game may borrow. Near currently supports private, consent-based Hide + Seek only.

What Jet Lag-style tag means

In the Tag Across Europe seasons of Jet Lag: The Game, one player is the Runner and the other players are Chasers. The Runner tries to reach a chosen win location while the Chasers use travel and information to catch them. It is a large-scale, travel-based tag game—not the same format as Near's current hide-and-seek round.

Core rules from the Jet Lag tag wikis

  1. Runner versus Chasers. A Runner has a destination or win location. The Chasers try to tag the Runner before the Runner reaches it.
  2. Tagging rotates the roles. In the Tag Across Europe summaries, a tag causes the Runner and Chaser positions to rotate, so the newly selected Runner starts pursuing a new destination. The exact rotation and freeze rules vary by season.
  3. Challenges fund travel. The Runner completes challenges to earn coins, then spends those coins on transport. The travel shop and prices change between seasons; the Chasers may have different travel limits.
  4. Vetoes cost time. In the formats summarized by the wiki, failing or declining a challenge can create a 30-minute period in which the Runner cannot use transit or draw another challenge.
  5. There is a clock. Tag EUR It seasons use a multi-day limit, and the winner rule can use the Runner's position relative to the win locations if nobody reaches a destination. A future Near format would need its own shorter, local rules.

What Near may borrow later

A future Near tag mode could adapt the ideas that make the format exciting—clear Runner and Chaser roles, a local goal, a visible game boundary, agreed travel rules, and a clear tag confirmation—without copying a television season or pretending to be official. It would still need consent-based location sharing, safe public play, and rules that work for a small group in one area.

What works in Near today

Near currently supports Hide + Seek: a private room, Hiding and Seeking teams, questions, a playable border, Radar, Thermometer, Matching, distance tools, and walking or transit directions. See the hide-and-seek guide for the game that is available now.

Reference pages

This summary follows the community-run Tag Across Europe (2) and Tag Across Europe (3) pages and the wiki's new-fan overview. They are community summaries, not official Near or Jet Lag rules, and different seasons use different details.

When tag mode is ready, Near will publish the actual rules here. Until then, read what Near is or open the current Hide + Seek game.
